Yes it is. College students often waste their time on social sites rather than preparing for their future. Yes we believe its entertaining but limited things often give good outputs. SO, i think use of social sites should be in limit. It cant never be an addiction as per my experience in society.

However an addiction, social media is also a value addition. Today decisions and intentions are communicated easily over this media. Students have started voicing their opinions on issues of importance. Although, there might be irrelevant opinions, but their addiction gives them a chance to present their thoughts logically, and the fact that they won't be judged in their social circle, builds their confidence. Eventually, it helps them develop their communication skills. #JBIMS #HACK

Food, clothing and shelter are the basic needs of man, but not for college students. It can appropriately be stated that college students can live without the stated basic needs but not without social media. College students are definitely addicted to Social Media. But, Social Media addiction should not termed as harmful; for every coin has two sides. Social Media Addiction of college students is like a pendulum. There is no definite judgement. #JBIMS #HACK

It sure is an addiction and addiction need not be negative. There is a famous saying by Shakespeare and I quote, 'nothing is right or wrong, it depends upon your perspective'. If I use the social media in a controlled manner and for specific purpose, it will benefit me and it will be a good addiction. And if I spend most of my time just scrolling pages and there is nothing productive coming out of it, it is a waste of precious thing called time. # JBIMS # HACK

Social media has influenced the life of humans in every possible way. But when this increasing fondness towards something crosses line, it becomes an addiction. College students' life revolves around social media. Though it helps in knowing whereabouts of your friends, you get to get in touch with your long lost friends, it also has resulted in destroying relationships. Security threat is another area of concern. Social media is surely an addiction among the youth today as the days start with it and the nights end with it. #JBIMS #HACK

Social media is bombarding the young individuals with so much of data, which is leading to lesser focus among youngsters. Also the continous social media exposure hampers the uninterrupted focussed attention which is required for studying and creative work. Social media should be used with giving gaps of 3 hour intervals. This leads to saving of time and leads to better focus for students. HAPPY LEARNING

Is it cocaine? Is it marijuana? Is it alcohol? Is it spending money? Is it chocolate? None of the above. Facebook is the largest social phenomenon that has swept over the internet world. And in some forms it turns into an addiction. Originally created by Mark Zuckerburg, this legal addiction is taking the lives of most civilized people around the world. Sounds dramatic, right? But this is true. It has become the biggest addiction among millions of young citizens. Posting photos and comments on a regular basis is an addiction. #JBIMS #HACKS

Everyone like gaining traffic or attention through social media. Social media has also changed the timing of marketing campaigns as Yes Bank doing today in India. Social media and social networking seem to play an imperative part of peoples lives around the world.Social media is changing the way we communicate and the way we are perceived, both positively and negatively. Every time you post a photo, or update your status, you are contributing to your own digital footprint and personal brand.

No. Social media is not the new addiction for college students. It is a basic necessity now used by all young to old so it cannot be categorised as addiction for college students. In my opinion addiction for college students is studying. Students can quit social media but cannot quit studies. #jbims #hack

Social media is one kind of addiction as well as an addition to a student. The Student gains some information regarding the incidents happening around the world and also able to contact or get in touch with other people throughout the world. But it only acts as an addition if there is some limit to its usage. If one crosses that limit and stays on using the social media ignoring the world in front him it leads to a disaster of destroying the career of the student. So one must use a social media wisely but limitedly.

Very Truely Said Dr. Shulin Trivedi ???? WelI, I would rather tell it An OCD of New Generation. OCD (Obssesive Compulsive Disorder)- referred For only Psychiatric patients but the Upcoming generations whose College Life begins with Smart phones Ends up in it! This says it all! Social Media is becoming an Obsession and just can't refrain from it and they accept it proudly! But this should be a caution rather than a proud for they are loosing their true identity in the process. They are loosing their grounding and lot of precious time required to savor energy for their future! They need help and correct education regarding selective and smart use of social media and not to be it's slave!

It is like sweet poision which otherwise user's dont realise how much he or she had lost when within it. Smart phones and social media MUST B USED IN A SMART WAY.. not like CROWD OF CATTLES.

I definitely think social media college has become an addiction for students. If I consider my example, I hardly used any social media before coming to college, but the when you receive messages at the rate of knots, you have to be connected to the internet 24X7. The group activities that are involved in an MBA course leads to the creation of various social media groups in WhatsApp, facebook, etc.It can make a person informative, also if not used for the right reasons could lead to self-destruction.#SCMHRD #HACK.

#SCMHRD #HACK No. Infact social media has changed the way college students do everything- how they make friends, date, share experiences and most importantly get an education. Facebook and Twitter are proving to be beneficial for students, they can get to know what's happening around world and stay updated before anyone else. All the businesses around the world are getting active on social media so why not the students? The world is experiencing a digital change which ought to be followed by everyone which includes students. Although social media should be used properly and timely.

Yes, I believe that social media is the new addiction for college students. Moreover, it's more of a "information craving" wherein one gets informed about social happenings, global affairs and at the same time, builds a so called "fast-relationship" with the humans around the globe in a jiffy. Building the same, social media makes one proactive and pro-informed.

#MDI #hack Social Media is not an addiction for college students or any other demographic segment of our population. Rather, it's just a way of expressing oneself. Social media being a platform is not only used for communication but also for information assimilation, promotion, awareness, building communities and much more. It can be capitalised upon if used wisely and in moderation.

#MDI #Hack Yes surely social media is a new addiction for college students, but it is not negative as some portray it to be . From my personal experience it is increasing productivity of college students many folds. Take a scenario where there was no social media in the times of our parents and the current reach of social media for students like us, we are more connected, more informed and have better networking than our parents just due to this social media.!

#MDI#Hack College students have been using social media extensively for past few years. But as I understand, it's not because of the reason that students are addicted to it but because it has become a necessity which they can't do away with. It's a medium where students get connected with each other, with faculties etc. The use of social media has facilitated greatly in networking and fast communication of information among students. It has simply become a part of their education process.

#MDI #Hack The number of hours being spent by humans on their mobiles has grown tremendously in the past few years and college students form a core part of that group with the growing number of social media platforms available at their disposal. The arguments against and in favour of social media are plenty, but the reality is that Good or Bad, social media is here to stay. Staying connected, entertainment requirements, information sharing, a worldwide reach are some of the aspects that keep this younger generation hooked and it seems unlikely for that scenario to change anytime soon.

Lot of information is floated on social media which can keep us updated about the latest happenings. At the same time, there is lot of information which can be ignored. These platforms also give us opportunity to freely express our opinions.

The run after likes, comments and thereby virtual popularity has been common these days. To leave a footprint of popularity students try new ways and spend considerable amount of time on social media. Some use it know to get updated about their friends and some to get updated about what's going on in the social media world. Yes,much of the traffic of social media is driven by college students but it cannot be said that they are deeply addicted, it's just like an another fad, but a little long lasting one.

Although the social media has got everyone engaged, yet, it is the youth which is most addicted to the social media. Nevertheless, a lot of youth are making great use of social media as a platform for study, research activities, finding employment and other opportunities which would not have been the case in the absence of the social media. Ultimately, it is the duty of families to teach the youth to use social media responsibly and the educational institutes to provide necessary knowledge to get the best use out of social media.

Why only for college students, anywhere you see people are more and more getting tangled in the world of social media. When on a vacation, they would not enjoy themselves at a spot, but take pictures so that they can share on social media. Yes it is the most for college students, they spend many hours surfing on the internet throughout the day, and cant imagine their lives without it. If they can use it for own good and don't feel compulsive for checking updates time and again, then it's good otherwise a very bad addiction it is!

It can not be declared without enough evidences that social media has become the new addiction but if a person wakes up and the first thing he/she does is check his/her social media profiles than it has certainly become a strong contender in the race of addictions.

Social Media is not an addiction for college students or any other demographic segment of our population. Rather, it's just a way of expressing oneself and knowing about the life of others. Over centuries it has evolved from the public announcements, radio broadcasts, television commercials, evening gossips at "kirana" stores to a concise platform where a person gets to know all the information he desires. This phenomena is profound in college students due to their comparatively high exposure to Social Media bubble and easier adaptability whereas elderly people are more accustomed to their habitual forms of information transfer and sharing.

Yes, college students are getting increasingly entangled in the captivating web of social media. and often, they fail to get out even though it affects their academic performance, the reasons being- 1. Social Media helps them boost their self confidence. Likes and comments have become the new way of self actualization. 2. They can be anything and anyone on the internet. I say anything, because of the dogs and cats on SnapChat! 3. It is tailor made to their likes and dislikes and hence makes it rather difficult to put the phone down.

Fidget spinners. These are just one of many hundreds of anti-fidget toys that have been innovated to correct antsy behaviour common amongst the youth. With increasing accessibility to social media channels across various platforms students attention span has been falling exponentially especially since the advent of social media platforms. Abstinence from these sources of entertainment and even social validation is known to lead to anxiety amongst millennials. This is testimony to the fact that students are indeed addicted to social media for all intents and purposes.

Considering that there are ~20 million college students in India, of whom roughly 60% own a smartphone (and have a social media presence) and Indian millennials averages around 3 hours per day on social media. Safe to say that this is an addiction, and like all addictions, needs to be curbed. Of course, the knowledge gain online and networking can benefit, but no more than half an hour (if generous, an hour) a day's worth. Still, this accounts for a conservative loss of 24 MILLION MAN-HOURS a day. For perspective, building Burj Khalifa took 22 MILLION MAN-HOURS!

Millennials are the next generation who are and will be driving the change in near future. I would call it a selective perception if we are considering social media a mere addiction. Technology driven information sharing should be used as a tool to make positive impact on society and social media offers one a platform do so, however one should also not undermine the potential risks that it may involve. #IIMCalcutta #UseYourDiscretion

For a world that is getting smaller day by day, Social media provides the perfect platform for both introverts and extroverts to express themselves to an unthinkably large audience. This case is especially true for college students who are most eager to express themselves freely. Here, everyone is a follower and everyone has followers. The reach is unlimited and so is the variety of ideas, expressions and creativity shared on these platforms. It is a powerful and an effective tool, which can do wonders if used efficiently.

Like everything Social Media has its pros and cons. On one hand, it has made youth aware of all the happenings and has made them sensitive to the all the rights and wrong. They are now conscious to raise a voice if something bad is happening. But parallelly the personal touch is lost. You can be with the family and friends or just scroll over. In short, use it properly and it is a tool for help or you won’t know when you get addicted to it.

Social media being a platform for not only communication but also information assimilation, promotion, awareness, building communities and much more, can be capitalized upon if used wisely and in moderation. All features of social media are a part of growing up and thus necessary for students to be exposed to. It has become imperative for not only college students but anyone who wishes to expand their horizon and learn more to be introduced to this medium. Calling this need an 'addiction' would be a misnomer.

Students in previous related studies have said that abstaining from social media made them feel anxious, jittery, antsy and miserable. Texting and IMing my friends gave them a constant feeling of comfort. When they did not have those two luxuries, they felt quite alone and secluded from my life. Although they went go to a school with thousands of students, the fact that they were not able to communicate with anyone via technology was almost unbearable. This addiction is equivalent to that of any drug available.

Yes, social media is THE addiction for college going students. Be it during lectures, in the break, even when sitting in the canteen with friends, students never stop checking their phones. So much so that your personality is validated by the number of friends/likes you get on your photo on the internet. Rather than being in the moment and enjoying, students are busy clicking photos for uploading them over the internet. It's called social media, but it's taking away the social life of today's youth.

Social Media has become more of a learning experience catering to the needs of all. It has become more of a platform to learn and experience the digital marketing and digital sales world rather than a mere addiction or addictive tool for socializing for students. If we ponder for a moment, "would the digital marketing have been so successful in reaching this vast a market without the frequent use of social media?" We don't know, but we surely see the benefits it is providing the students as a breeding and learning ground, especially for digital and online marketing world.

Yes I would strongly say so. Imagine this, you are out for a romantic dinner with your partner, have ordered the perfect wine and enjoying the moment. The waiter comes with your food and wishes you 'Bon apetit'. You cannot wait to dig into the yummy spinach and dill risotto. You pick up your spoon when your partner says, "Wait! Let me take a picture!". A couple more selfies, pictures and hashtags until your Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram, Whatsapp friends list ALL know your "#date night" details. Then you get the permission to eat. Enjoy! #LiveTheMomentDontClickIt

But yes, with introduction of more and more ways to showcase one's happy and happening personal life, social media is the new addiction for college students. Earlier, may be it was watching movies in theaters; now is watching movies in the theater and telling everyone that they are watching the movies.

An addiction? Well one can safely say that he is not addicted to it , however the fact is that atleast half one the idle time spent by a person is on social media, it would be incorrect to say that people are not addicted to it. Being up to date, the satisfaction from assurances in the form of "likes" and "comments" and sending and receiving real time updates is itself a proof of this question!

But the most disconcerting part of it is in some cases inferior, and in most cases outright disgusting content that is being created to feed this addiction. This is not where it ends, unlike most addictions which you can kick with willpower and a trip or two to rehab, this addiction haunts you and keeps on drawing you back in, all thanks to a tick box you checked without even reading it(courtesy, cookies).

Obviously, the fact that we live a second life behind the mask of social media cannot be ignored. From friendships, to dating, to arm-chair politics, we are totally dependent on social media. I fear to say, but we are in a time where campaigns on social media sway the mass opinion.

People do get addicted to social media because of the unsatiable need for information and ease of communication. college students mainly get attracted because of communication, need for social approval and fear of being unacceptably different if norms are not followed.

Nowadays you might not see some of your classmates in class but you will definitely find them online. So I guess social media is the latest addiction for college students. In the name of keeping themselves abreast with the latest information ,the college going crowd has become so obsessed with social media be it Facebook ,Twitter or instagram that their day starts with it and ends with it. I guess it's time to wake up and realise how badly we have disconnected ourselves from the real world because of our obsession with the virtual world!

Twitter for breakfast, Instagram for lunch and for dinner is Facebook, The Social Media storm is getting every student hooked. They say they're networking and keeping selves 'abreast', Little do they know that their body and mind are not getting any rest. They tell us about everything from weddings to climate change and from Obama to GST and cess, It's time to realise the information is helpful but anything is harmful in excess!
